Fullscreen Mode for Your 1080p HDTV
I am sure that if you own a 1080p HDTV you have noticed the black borders around the edges of your desktop. You may have tried the fullscreen mode via the ps3videomode command and then experienced a desktop that was a little too large for your screen. Well … this is a guide that will enable you to use 100% of your real estate effectively.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, mode 133 on my Mitsu DLP model 65732 displays an image larger than the screen holds. All four edges go off the screen… and I’m not in any sort of zoom mode or anything, just “1080p standard” — same as when I’m using the Playstation. So, anway, this doesn’t seem to be a universal fix, but congrats on getting it to work for yourself!

The key here is enabling overscan mode for your TV. If you do not do that …. it will not work.

It will work as long as your TV has the overscan option that you can set.

I think the key to get a pixel-to-pixel 1080p display on TV, is to DISABLE overscan, rather than enable.
If the TV you use doesn’t have an overscan option, I guess the best you can do is just to turn off the fullscreen mode. As in this normal (non-fullscreen mode) mode, the video output has been shrinkked and added black borders around, and these borders are to be cropped by TV’s overscan function.

I have Samsung LE40M86 40″ LCD which overscans as well. I only get 5 pixels of the top of the KDE task panel. By chosing “Just Scan” as the picture size (16:9, 4:3, Wide Zoom, Zoom, Just Scan is available) i am only 2 pixels short at the bottom and 1 at each side and top.
