The problem there is that I do not have my ps3 connected to the internet (for obvious reasons). Is there not another more up to date release of the ps3 version of ubuntu with the new kernal? It would save people all this pissing around.

Lol linux (or any third party OS) will not "break" your PS3....your normal PS3 OS (XMB) is unaffected by what you do in linux. So...ya its not broken...unless you did something to make it overheat (overclock) or something...

Dopple, zxc

apt-get install rpm says something about not needing the packages, ie. it wont installl rpm (or rpm2cpio)

this post solved the problem
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=653953

Basically, go to System -> Administration -> Software sources and check the 4 first options under "Downloadable from the Internet", this will make you install the rpm packages with "apt-get install rpm" including rpm2cpio.

Using the tutorial http://psubuntu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2349 I fall at the first hurdle where it tells you to install rpm2cpio. Does anyone know where to get a .deb package to install rpm?

Is there anyone that can actually shed any light on this issue? It has been posted on since Santos_IRL posted on December 18, 2007. I'm going to throw myself into this at the weekend. I promise I will post back once I find out.
