Not replying for two days shouldn't really be considered an attempt to blow off communication. And yes, I have actually been away for the last few weeks :) Your requests have now been answered on the cell mailing list.

Like I have said many times before, I'd be more than happy to add new writers, especially developers, to the blog. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to contribute.

Hi all

@mattruby - Thanks v much for this comment, and your post to the dev list. It's great to see people so passionate about this project.

But to clarify: I'm not suggesting we need to take over the site. We just need to work more closely together so that what's really happening on the dev side is communicated here, and what people are doing/saying here is fed back to the devs. Then everyone will know what's happening, when, and what help is needed to get there.

So, Fred, if you're listening, please get in contact and let us know what you're opinion is on the matter, and we can discuss what's needed to make it happen.

Lets also give Fred a break, there could be many reasons why he hasn't answered yet. I don't believe there would be any benefit to him in deliberately "blowing off" our communication attempts.

Cheers all!

The ubunutu-cell project wants to use PSUbuntu.com as the project's "front end". But FredTech is blowing off their attempts to contact them:

PSUBUNTU.COM

Gouki and I have been thinking that psubuntu.com really is a great front end for the project (better than our rather dry wiki page), and tends to be the site that most new users end up at first. But it's not really official. I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't be.

We made an attempt to contact FredTech (the site owner) to talk about it. But we've had no reply. I have another email address I'm going to try to contact him at. Does anyone else know how best to contact this guy? Fred, are you on this list?

This community has been breaking down since shortly after it started. Ubuntu on the PS3 itself has been a rollercoaster ride, mostly downhill, throughout that time. FredTech, please let the ubuntu-cell people take over this site and make it worth using. Unifying the maillist's developers with a website of users (some of whom can program) who will test the project's betas is exactly what Ubuntu/PS3 needs to finally work properly, as software and as a community. Don't let this chance at success die like so many others have.

Is there no way the PowerPC version here:

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/8.04/release/

will work or can be adapted to work on the PS3's Cell CPU? It's a while since I read about it but I remember the PS3's chip incorporating atleast some PowerPC elements

I'm writing this on Xubuntu Hardy. I've made tutorial at forum how I did it. I bit astound still as I though I read just few days back about Hardy issues at launchpad, but I've managed to upgrade very easily to Hardy and it runs actually quite well. dmesg | tail prints out

"ioctl32(xfce4-terminal:2765): Unknown cmd fd(18) cmd(0000530b){t:'S';sz:0} arg(0fe817cc) on /dev/pts/0" type errors for some unknown reason, but it doesn't appear to affect using Xubuntu.

I just was in the package manager last night and upgraded to 8.04 over the net no problems -- took a couple hours to download and whatnot, but booted up when I typed "old". I had 7.10 I guess and was fighting with getting the wireless working and already messed in my kboot.conf so I couldn't tell ya right now which kernel that boots without going home and looking. :)
Still fighting with finding the best kernel. I'd love one that worked with wireless (and no borders too, what!). I got one booted that is suppose to work, but now Network Manager has everything grayed out. Oh well. It's nothing too usable right now anyway since I'm stuck at 480p, but I'll mess with it some more as time passes I'm sure.
