Why PSUbuntu?

The Playstation 3 is one of the most advanced consoles on the market. It’s (obviously) great for gaming, outputs in high-def and comes with a Blu-ray player. But it also has a unique feature that allows you to install a version of the Linux operating system – making it a full fledged personal computer as well!

For the last years, Ubuntu has been the most popular Linux distribution for the desktop. It focuses on ease of use, provides regular software updates, and gives you a full range of modern desktop applications right “out of the box”. The name derives from the african concept of ubuntu, meaning “humanity towards others”.

Because of its ease of use, we believe that Ubuntu should be the distribution of choice for people interested in making the most out of their Playstations. It will be a great starting point for people who are new to the OS (as most PS3-owners are). By installing PSUbuntu, your PS3 becomes a home computer (running desktop applications), a media center or a server.
