This is a good read, please dont skim, ill keep it short and sweet

Last night I downloaded/ burned the Ubuntu 7.10 PS3 image, and installed. Everything A-OK! No wireless however. Updated my Kernel to the RC7 and Audio icon received a big Mute mark. I found through google.com searching that it was due to the RC7 drivers.

This morning, Formatted again, installed same 7.10 PS3 image, and used LINKSYS WUSB54GC USB Wireless adapter, and my wireless showed up just fine (Not the internal one). Did all my updating using the USB Adapter, loaded the custom sources.list (use google.com to find the tool to create your own) and have now installed snes9express.

To install go to terminal and get into root mode using su and your password.. OR just use sudo in front of this command:
apt-get install snes9express
OR
sudo apt-get install snes9express
and press Y at the prompt. Your SNES emulator will show up in APPLICATIONS > GAMES > SNES9EXPRESS

IMPORTANT!!! - In order for sound to work use these settings on most games (when playing them from PS3)
SOUND TAB > (Check These to ON)
Sound, Stereo, Filters, Thread Sound, (Turn up to max on slider bar), Interpolate, Envelope, Sync.
If you need to turn some options off thats fine, just DO NOT mess with Thread Sound... as of JAN/06/2008 ive tried 5 games, and all were choppy sound unless i had THREAD SOUND turned on.

**I did not update to the RC7 Kernel**

Ive enabled my SIXAXIS controller using the guide found HERE
http://www.ps3forums.com/archive/index.php/t-108982.html
Please note, that when calibrating your controller on a PS3 you are not using /dev/js0 or /dev/js1 you are using /dev/input/js0 and /dev/input/js1 respectively. To change where your SNES9EXPRESS looks for the controller, Open SNES9EXPRESS, select the CONTROLLERS tab, click DEVICES... , and change /dev/js0 to read /dev/input/js0 (if using 2 controllers change /dev/js1 to /dev/input/js1)
After making the changes to the field(s) close the window, and return to your SNES9EXPRESS window. CLick CONFIGURE BUTTON MAPS... and you should see a controller (or 2 if doing both). You must assign a key on your SIXAXIS controller to the shaded button on the Gamepad on your screen. (Circle, X, Triangle, Square, L1, R1, Start, Select) then click CLOSE.

As of JAN/06/2008 @ 11:43AM EST - For some reason, SNES9EXPRESS does not like it if i turn JOYSTICK on, i have to go to JOYSTICK tab and turn it off for the Emulator to run without an error code 1. I will look further into this and see if i can make sense of it.

*(UPDATE)* Going to Olive Garden for lunch, going to let a few ideas rattle around in my brain before i take another stab at this.

*(Final Question)* In the end of this post, all i really would like to know, is if someone has a "How To" guide to restore audio functionality post RC7 update. If not, I am going to work on creating one, and will post here how to do it. Thank you for your time.

Found where SNES9EXPRESS is getting Error Code 1.

1. From SNES9EXPRESS press RESET (to reset all configs to default)
2. Go to SOUND and turn on THREAD SOUND (leave all others default)
3. Go to ROMS and click ROM SELECTOR (now select your rom)
4. Go to CONTROLLERS and click DEVICES...
5. Change /dev/js0 to /dev/input/js0 (click CLOSE)
6. *IMPORTANT* DO NOT CONFIGURE BUTTON MAPS
7. Click POWER!!

Now notice that the rom will start up, and the command was sent to SNES9EXPRESS to use your SIXAXIS controller (without the extra button configs)

Now here's where it gets REAL interesting... I can map ALL the buttons except for CIRCLE. In order to see this in action you must follow my instructions.

1. Click RESET on SNES9EXPRESS
2. Go to CONTROLLERS and click DEVICES...
3. Change /dev/js0 to /dev/input/js0 (click CLOSE)
4. Click CONFIGURE BUTTON MAPS
5. Assign your buttons like you would normally do, except STOP when it gets to where you assign X for (B)
6. While the SHADE is on (B) waiting for you to click X, you need to do a RESET.
((( This will allow you to assign all SIXAXIS buttons EXCEPT the Circle)
7. After Reset, go to CONTROLLERS and click DEVICES...
8. Change /dev/js0 to /dev/input/js0 (click CLOSE)
9. Click CONFIGURE BUTTON MAPS and configure all EXCEPT the Circle for (A) and close the window.
10. Select ROM tab and select which ROM you would like to use.
11. Select SOUND tab and turn THREAD SOUND back on
12. Click power and notice how you have no error...

Why is it that the CIRCLE causes an error?

I am now playing the SNES9EXPRESS games with a SIXAXIS controller (bluetooth) ((No im not using usb cable)) (((Use guide in above post to do this)))
Only thing is.. i have no CIRCLE button functionality therefore no (A)

Conclusion for SIXAXIS + SNES9EXPRESS

As long as you DO NOT assign (A) as anything you are good to go.
Trying to assign (A) as any other key also fails.
I think it may have something to do with SNES9EXPRESS

OK! Lots of progress in last 10 minutes. Took a look at the configuration of SNES9EXPRESS and looked at how the program interprets the configs. SNES9EXPRESS comes pre-configred for JS0 and JS1, so the answer lies in >>Reconfiguring the SIXAXIS<<

I need to reprogram the SIXAXIS.. but have no idea how im gonna do that. Time to go look and see whats up.

Here's how i need to configure it.. I need to configure my controller so (SIXAXIS BUTTON PRESSED) emulates to (SNES9EXPRESS DEFAULT KEY) The answer lies in changing the sixaxis not the snes9express key maps.
