|
|
kay. it took me... 2 minutes to install this.
step 1: download this
http://ozlabs.org/~jk/projects/petitboot/downloads/bin-0.0.1/otheros.bld
its a special version of otheros.bld that has the Kboot GUI preinstalled
step 2: put this into X:\PS3\OTHEROS\ >>>IN HERE<<<
this can be done with a usb drive, SD card, anything that the ps3 can read... even cd.
step 3: plug that into your ps3 and in the xmb go to settings > system settings > Install OtherOS
step 4: wait for it to find your device and install and then boot to the otheros to check if it worked.
i reset my ps3 twice to make sure it worked and it did. when the otheros fires up you will be hit with a screen and there is going to be an icon of an HDD on the left. press down on your keyboard. the press right to get to the other sections of that HDD partitions. select the corrent one and press enter. video modes can also be set. i dont know if the video modes are saved.
if you cant get through this how to you will be SOL in life. |

If I installed Ubuntu from a LiveCD (not from XMB), can I later run your procedure from XMB and get the graphical kboot without the XMB undoing the rest of my existing Ubuntu install?
If not, how do I add the graphical kboot to the existing Ubuntu install? Probably edit kboot.conf with some other parameters to point at a new file containing the graphical kboot code. _________________ --

| I installed the graphical boot using the XMB (system settings->install other os). For me it worked fine - it uses the existing /etc/kboot.conf file and simply draws a pretty graphic instead of giving me a text prompt. |

Hi there, I'm new here and wathever.
This petiteboot thing seems quite interesting, but i was wondering if, after the installation, ther is a way to return to the default shell screen (the "kboot:_" one).
Someone have the answer to my doubt?
Cheers, and sorry for my bad english, it's pretty lame. |

boot with XBM, go to Settings/System Settings/Install OtherOS and install it from "Ubuntu LiveCD".
I've had trouble with petitboot also at linux installation time and I was forced to install it with shell kboot, but after that petitboot works greatly. _________________ I'm going down... |

Thanks, but there isn't a way to simply switch between the two booting modes? Without installing and reinstalling I mean. |

kboot, both shell or graphical must be installed in disk MBR so either you'll install shell version from original "Ubuntu LiveCD" or petitboot from self prepared CD/pendrive/MS card/MMC card/SD card.
You don't need to install whole Ubuntu again, just install OtherOS loader.
That's all. _________________ I'm going down... |

Does your timeout auto-boot work?
Do you know how to change the icons? |

| If I hit del for gameos, why is that the ps3 then defaults back to the PS3 being the default (as opposed to OtherOS) |

1. timeout auto-boot don't work - petitboot is in very early alpha state (v0.0.1) so it's miracle that it works anyway;
2. download source, change graphic and compile - I guess _________________ I'm going down... |

Boot-up from LiveCD, open terminal and type:
| Code: |
sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt -t ext3 -o defaults
|
After that you have access to your Ubuntu system files by /mnt directory, so paste here your "/mnt/etc/kboot.conf" and you could write more about "ubuntu wont start up at all" including info if it worked before and what was that you done that it is something "before". _________________ I'm going down... |
