The video doesn't show the error too well, but you may try this..
The otheros.bld on my system had to be updated before i could install ubuntu.

http://www.playstation.com/ps3-openplatform/manual.htmlIf you install by cd or usb you MUST use this folder layout
/PS3/otheros/otheros.bld
(meaning at the root of the cd or usb make a folder called "PS3" which IS case sensitive and a folder called "otheros" inside the "PS3" folder just created. Your "otheros.bld" file must be within the "otheros" folder!)
After I updated this way my ubuntu install worked!
Not to offend but... you are using the ppc version correct?
