Woohoo! I just tried the latest karmic:
Code:
725649408 Sep 23 03:49 karmic-alternate-powerpc+ps3.iso
f032048bc370521b802ddcfe2c34595d  karmic-alternate-powerpc+ps3.iso

on fresh 700M CDR media - and it finds the ps3 optical drive just fine, and talks to the wireless. I haven't done a fresh install from it (haven't copied off stuff from the 9.04 install.)

So (1) somebody fixed something (no idea who, but thanks :-) (2) If you've had trouble, now's a good time to try again!

I thought I was, actually, up until it prompted me for a subject :-} Then I noticed there were about five other threads talking about the same issue, and figured it was easier to just leave it than to go chasing all of them down...

So, can anyone say whether or not the new builds are working properly or not? Has anyone done a full, successful install of Ubuntu, Xubuntu, or Kubuntu from a disc, and if so, where did you get your CD image from? I'm down to my last blank disc and I don't want to burn another 9.10 and it do exactly what the rest of them have been doing.

@metalmilitia419: I tried the Xubuntu 9.10 daily build for October 14 (from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/daily/current/karmic-alternate-powerpc+ps3.iso) a couple days back, and it didn't work :( . It might've been fixed in the meantime, but I doubt it.

In due time, I guess. Thank you, though.

Tried alternate ubuntu from 16th and yes the cdrom issue is gone, but instead it gets stuck on formating the swap. Ill try a later release this weekend or when i get some time to spare, seems its the same issue the desktop releases had a while back when i tried that.

EDIT: Just tried the build from 20th, and still hangs at swap format.

From the looks of things there is a fix issued for the format swap problem, more info can be found here.
