Thanks Tim, do you have a 720p-screen or 1080. If the first one, do you have problems with black borders around the screen image (visible desktop)?

I can confirm a nice clean install from the daily build of 2008-10-27. I hope it works well for you to install.

Depends on what you mean is safe. I'm pretty sure it won't destroy your ps3. Hihi.

I tried the iso from 20081018 and the kernel is back in after having been removed earlier. There is also an option to configure the wireless during install but it only supports WEP according to the message on screen.

The install still errors out when configuring packages but it works after bootup but only in text mode. It's an alternate install after all so that's no surprise. All installations from daily discs I've tried become unbootable when installing the ubuntu-desktop. I believe it is the initrd generation that's conflicting.

So if you only use textmode I think it will be ok. I will install fluxbox and see what happens.

Hello everyone,

I want to thank everyone who gave me tips/tricks, I'm still a newbie when it comes to linux, I'm not even a I.T. specialist. So I don't know how to build a new kernel maybe I will give it a try.

But my strong advice if you're running ubuntu gutsy 7.10 for ppc hardware, stay with that until there is an official release of a newer version.

But if you know how to build a kernel and you have allot of experience with linux and ppc hardware. You should try to do an upgrade.

But I'm gonna give one more try.

If I'm successfully I will write my report on this site.

Best of luck for everyone

Hey Prodejeff,

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

After this experience with 8.04 are you happy you made the switch?? Or is your preference still to use Gutsy?

I have Gutsy working so nicely for me I'm reluctant to start playing with Hardy or Intrepid yet. I foresee many sleepless nights and hair being torn out!

Can this updated Otheros build boot into 2.6.25 AND 2.6.24 kernals?

Hi yes you need to build the kernel yourself from source or install the latest kernel from the PS3 Linux Distribution Kit. I don't really know how to install the distribution kit and I don't know the values for building the kernel from source although I know how ot do the actual build.

Hello everyone,

I have one question, can I with little knowledge install that kernel (2.6.25.4), can I find that kernel in the package list or do need to create it myself.
