OS Hardware Support

Ubuntu running on the PS3 must support the PS3's unique implentations of various kinds of hardware. Like in any OS, driver support lets software interact with the hardware. Some diagnostic, test and calibration applications can troubleshoot hardware problems. And other applications make full use of the hardware's features.

Builtin Hardware

This hardware ships with every PS3. Different uses of the Cell SPEs (or other HW) as different programmable devices (like a video processor) are listed as different hardware, though the actual hardware is the same.

Summary:

Optional Compatible Hardware

This list of hardware that doesn't necessarily ship with every PS3, but which has been tested to work with a PS3 (whether under Ubuntu, some other Linux distro, Sony's GameOS, or otherwise). It needs to be completed.

Other Hardware

This list of hardware includes hardware that doesn't work directly with a PS3 as its host "PC", but still interoperates with a PS3. That includes other PCs on a network, perhaps being used as DLNA media servers, or cablemodems/routers, or other "standalone" devices that connect with the PS3 over other interfaces, whether Bluetooth, ethernet, or otherwise. It needs to be completed.
