Troubleshooting PSUbuntu

Return to main PS3 OS

To return to the normal PS3 XMB menu, start up the PS3 and wait for the kboot: prompt to load.

For Intrepid (Ubuntu 8.10), type
game
or, for older PSUbuntu versions
ps3-boot-game-os
or
boot-game-os

If you're in a terminal (from inside PSUbuntu), you need to write
sudo boot-game-os
and provide your admin password

To go back to PSUbuntu from XMB, go to [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Default OS] > [Other OS]

Uninstalling PSUbuntu

Format your PS3 hard drive from the System Settings menu. Remember to back up files and savegames and synchronize the trophies.

Fixing an unbootable system from the bootloader

If your system won't boot, it may be possible to fix your system by using the kboot shell. See EditingFromKboot

9.04 wireless not connecting

Recently some wireless issue occured in 9.04, luckily it's easy to solve, the original thread can be found here.

Opn up a terminal window and navigate to /etc/network/interfaces

sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces
(then enter your password)

Comment out all interfaces, if you don't know how, just make sure that every line in that file starts with a '#'.

Reboot, when the wireless auto connects everything is fine. However sometimes it just wont. You can make it connect by right clicking the network icon, disabling networking and then enabling it again.

Version 9.10 can't mount root filesystem

Install petitboot to fix this problem.
You can find petitboot here.
Make sure you download the latest version from there.

- Rename the file you just downloaded to "otheros.bld"
- Copy "otheros.bld" to your flash drive to PS3/otheros/otheros.bld
- Boot the PS3 OS (hold your finger on the sensor until you hear a beep, in case you're stuck in kboot)
- Go to "install other OS" and follow the steps.
- Boot the other OS, it should be fine now.

NOTE: selecting "install other os" ONLY installs/overwrites the bootloader. it will NOT harm your previously installed OS in any way.
